Our take
I would choose the DoubleTree by Hilton London ExCeL for a longer stay linked to London City Airport, where laundry, room service and accessible facilities make a real difference. The riverfront rooms and suites give the hotel more character than a basic airport box, and a restaurant and bar are on site. It is a sensible pick for a family or a pet owner, less so for a very short stopover.
- Factor in over an hour for public transport or taxi to London City Airport when planning your departure
- Utilize the on-site restaurant and bar for convenient dining, especially if you have an evening arrival
- Take advantage of the full-service laundry for longer stays or if you're traveling with family
